Bogdan Vasilescu goes to Carnegie-Mellon!

Bogdan Vasilescu, who first escaped the Grey skies of Eindhoven (NL)  to visit DECAL as a PhD Student, fell in love with  the  sunflower fields, friendly people, wide-open skies and abundant sunshine of Davis; he then lingered here for 2 years afterwards to do a post-doc with us. All good things come to an end; he leaves us in the fall to start a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Institute of Software Research at CMU in Pittsburgh, PA. Come back anytime, Bogdan,  specially if (when) you get cold and wet. We might ask you to bring some Allegheny water with you, to irrigate the almond trees in the Engineering courtyard.

Strong ICSE showing in 2016!

We’re delighted and deeply honored to have 5 papers in total accepted from UC Davis to the prestigious and highly competitive ICSE conference, to be held in Austin, TX! This continues our tradition of a strong presence at ICSE and FSE (the top conferences in software engineering) from UC Davis, thanks to our talented, hardworking, and productive students, postdocs and visitors!

Dr Baishakhi Ray, postdoc in the DECAL lab, will be joining the faculty of the University of Virginia in the Fall of 2015 as an Assistant Professor in the department of Computer Science.

The Naturalness of Software

Software, like other forms of human expression, tends to be repetitive; this repetition can be captured in statistical models and exploited for various tasks. We lead a large, multi-institution consortium studying the application of computational NLP methods to software code. UC Davis is the lead; our partners include the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie-Mellon University, and the Software Engineering Group at Iowa State Unviersity. This project has it’s own webpage (under construction)
